Those selling their real estate in Big Sur must consider many things when choosing a Realtor to represent them in the sale of their property

First and foremost in importance is honesty and transparency, followed closely by marketing and a willingness to consistently work towards a sale. A Seller must avoid hiring a Realtor who will subtly make it difficult for other Realtors to bring potential buyers to see the property. While this may sound unlikely, the reality is that there are Realtors who will try to make the property only viewable to buyers that they represent. If they succeed in doing this, they receive a double commission. Even if the sale brings the seller a lower purchase price than they might have received otherwise, the Realtor would still make a much higher commission than if they had only represented the Seller on a transaction that brings a higher price to the Seller.

This is an example of a common, low-integrity, real estate practice that Sellers should avoid. It is highly advisable to ask for references when considering hiring a Realtor. Speak to the last five people the Realtor has represented. Doing a little research and asking around the community is perhaps the best way to learn who you should put your trust in.
